Editorial policy

Our standards

• Official sources first. Fees, rates and rules come from the platform, the provider or the government body that sets them.
• Dated and linked. Each tool and guide lists its sources and the date we last checked them.
• No made-up numbers. If we cannot confirm a figure, we say so instead of guessing. Worked examples are clearly labelled as examples.
• Plain English. We explain things simply and show our working.

How we write and check

Each tool and guide is researched against the official sources, written, then checked a second time against those sources before it goes live. Calculations are tested with worked examples that we work out by hand.

Keeping things up to date

We recheck rates, fees and rules at least once a month and after any announced change. Changes to how a tool calculates are recorded in the update log on our methodology page.

Independence

No company pays to change our results, rankings or wording. If we ever earn money from a link, we say so clearly. Read our affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If you spot a mistake, please tell us. We check every report, fix confirmed errors quickly and note the change.
